Hold-able Torches

Welcome to our weekly Minecraft Spotlight! In this issue we will cover Hold-able Torches, a Bukkit plugin by MrCodeMinerRelicum and TheDanielGaming that makes torches more useful.

Torches in Minecraft can only light up an environment by placing them on a surface. As you all know, carrying a lit torch is not possible. Fortunately, there are many plugins available that solve this issue. The previously featured RWtorchLight plugin for example, which brightens up a small area around the player using a glowstone that will follow the player wherever they go. However, if you would rather not get chased by a glowstone, Hold-able Torches may be a better choice.

Similarly to other portable torch plugins, the effect will be noticeable immediately upon equipping a torch. It is not required for players to craft some sort of special torch, or use a console command. Simply holding the torch will be enough to brighten up their surroundings. In addition to regular torches, players can use redstone ones as well, the effect of using either is identical.

Unlike the other torch plugin mentioned earlier, torches will light up everything, instead of just the area around the player. This effect is made possible by using the night vision effect. As you can see on the images above, the effect is quite powerful. If you would rather not have every player to have this ability, you can use permissions to limit the plugin to the players of your choice.

Installation & Requirements

  1. Download the latest version of Hold-able Torches from here.
  2. Place the "torch.jar" file in the "plugins" folder, located in your server's main directory.
  3. Start your server.
  4. Enjoy your newly installed plugin!

Configuration

Usually plugins come with a configuration file that allows you to customise it to your liking. For this plugin this is not possible, as there would not be much to configure anyway.

Final Words

Hold-able Torches is a nice little plugin that introduces a new way of using torches. Holding one will brighten up everything, making it easier to see in the dark. The plugin is also very easy to set up, as it does not use commands or a configuration file.
