I was asked to be the maintainer for this mod (since original creator is stimmedcow), I began reluctantly, like you I thought modders should be responsible for handling cases like conflict and offer alternative recipes and such. Over time I came to realize this is wishful thinking. Modders simply ignore those things, and often recommend "modding" their recipes with third party mods.

Thus this project is a simple way for common users not to be bothered with complex re-modding of the game.

As for mod breaking, this mod works with plenty of other crafting tables. (RefinedStorage, ActuallyAdditions...)

In case you feel your game isn't playable because of it, you can disable custom detection support in the configuration file.

Smelting in furnace can't be fixed the same way because of the delay involved in the process, and the fact that new recipes remove previous ones.

It should be the modder concern not to remove a smelting recipe that exist.

Autocrafting is unlikely to be able to be supported.

Most cases where this mod can't fix, the other mod will need to fix by themselves. They are free to copy the source to help them code recipes within their crafting devices.

Did you find the mod configuration screen, from the main game menu ?
All the rendering options will be there.

Your first option is to go in the configuration screen from the mods list menu, and put "Render selected arrow on bow" to false. The bow will look just like vanilla until the bow is actively used. (Note: may need a resource pack refresh). Select the "bow" option under "Custom Item Renderers" to also remove the arrow layering on bow use. (Note: may need a game restart)

For further customization, the modded bow models are located at:
    assets/battlegear2/models/item/bow_'arrow'.json
You can edit those in the mod file or through a resource pack. Either way is fine.
