allvatar interviews Jeff "Tigole" Kaplan at Leipzig

allvatar has a great interview with Blizzard's Jeff Kaplan up from the Leipzig Games Convention. Tigole provided additional information on a few things coming in patches and the expansion. A quick recap:

  • Blizzard is looking at ways to attract players back to the old world. One way is through the new Caverns of Time: Stratholme instance, as well as the revamps of Naxxramas and Dustwallow Marsh.
    • Dustwallow Marsh is being revamped to help ease the leveling progression from 35 to 45.
    • Arathi Highlands and Alterac Mountains elite quests are being turned into normal quests.
  • Blizzard is considering another old world(Azeroth) instance designed for 10 players, but it hasn't been announced or named yet.
  • Wrath of the Lich King will have a series of 10-person instances designed with progressing through them in mind, similar to 25-person raid instances. As of right now there are two planned, with a possible third being added later on.
  • Northrend is larger than Outland in size, with more zones, but Dragonblight is the only zone that will be larger than an Outland zone.
  • Getting to level 80 won't be too hard so players can expect a similar level progression to Burning Crusade, because Tigole feels TBC was "just about right."
  • 25-person raids will start off with Naxxramas as the entry point for progression in the expansion.
  • More daily quests will be added in upcoming content patches, as well as with Wrath of the Lich King. One cool change to the mechanic is that they will be randomized a bit so that it doesn't feel like you're doing the same quests every day.
  • Tigole feels raiding cities is an extremely cool idea, and he would like to explore ways to encourge players to PvP in them.
  • Player housing isn't planned for Wrath of the Lich King but it's still something Blizzard wants to do.
