About KuiNameplates

Prettier, pixel-perfect nameplates with auras.
Configurable through interface options (/knp or /kuinameplates).

Known issues and feature requests are tracked on GitHub.
If you're so inclined, please submit any bugs you find or feature requests there.

I try to answer all the questions I can, so feel free to ask in the comments.
If I don't reply, it's either already been asked, is in the FAQ below, or the answer is simply "no."

You can use KuiSpellListConfig to customise the whitelist used by the Auras module.
Note that the whitelist is disabled by default, and you need to uncheck "use default UI filter."

Kui_Nameplates_Custom is a template module which can be used to modify the Core layout, if you know lua (or if you want to use one of the examples).

Want to help translate? I'm now using CurseForge's localisation system.

Frequently Asked Questions

0. Why do friendly nameplates look different in instances as of 7.2?

Blizzard has blocked addons from modifying friendly nameplates in instances in 7.2 (read their statement here). We can't do anything about this.

1. Only the nameplate of my target shows up!

That's because of Blizzard's new option under Esc > Interface > Names > "Always show nameplates".

When that option is NOT checked (the default), only the nameplate of your current target will be shown while out of combat. When it IS checked, nameplates will always be shown, depending on other CVars (FAQ 1a, for instance) and settings in /knp.

1a. Friendly NPCs don't have any nameplates!

This is due to a new CVar Blizzard added in 7.1. You can re-enable them by running this:

/run SetCVar("nameplateShowFriendlyNPCs",1)

This is permanent, but character specific. I'll be adding checkboxes for these hidden toggles at some point.

2. Some nameplates still aren't showing up!

They're probably disabled. Blizzard, for some reason, decided to remove the checkboxes for this, so try using the keybinds: V, Ctrl+V and Shift+V by default. These are provided by the default UI.

Alternatively, if you're in a large raid or another situation where many nameplates are visible then, as of Legion, the maximum number of visible nameplates is limited to 40. Addons can't change this.

Also note that unattackable enemy players do not get nameplates rendered by the game. Again, addons can't change this.

3. Kui_Nameplates_Extras, _Auras and other old external modifications will need to be disabled!

Otherwise they'll give you lots of errors. _Auras is now included in the base addon. I'm working on updating _Extras.

4. Why is there a nameplate under my character?

It's Blizzard's new option to show a personal nameplate. Here's how to disable it. By default, it only shows while you're in combat, or when you otherwise receive damage or healing. There are hidden CVars to change this behaviour which you can find using an addon like AdvancedInterfaceOptions.

5. How can I stop nameplates from clamping to the screen?

Use Ketho's NameplateRange (or the script provided on that page). This will also stop the nameplates of large enemies from staying on screen, because that's what clamping is.

6. Nameplates keep appearing/disappearing after I enter/leave combat!

If nameplates are being shown upon engaging a boss, this is done by boss mods like BigWigs or DBM so that they can show you extra information on them. You can disable this by unchecking /knp > boss mods > "allow boss mods to control visibility..."

Otherwise, set the "combat action" drop-downs at the top of /knp > general to "do nothing". If that doesn't fix it, make sure "always show nameplates" is checked (see the first FAQ item). If it still happens, then another addon is doing it.

7. Why don't unattackable enemy players (e.g. in sanctuaries) have nameplates?

Refer to FAQ 2.

8. Why doesn't [ability] show in the aura frame?

If you have the whitelist enabled (/knp > use whitelist), the ability might not be included in it. Try disabling the "use whitelist" option and see if it shows up then. If it does, then you can re-enable and edit it using KuiSpellListConfig.

If you have /knp > auras > "use default UI filter" enabled, then it might be being hidden by that. Try disabling that option. There's no way to edit this filter at the moment.

Ultimately, try disabling both at the same time and checking the filter settings in /knp > auras (max time, etc). This should make it show everything you cast.
