Ubisoft has unveiled the official cover art for the next Assassins Creed game, Assassins Creed III. The cover art (embedded above, click to enlarge) confirms long-standing rumors that Ubisoft would be taking their popular assassin-themed action RPG to a more modern era than previous titles.
Assassins Creed is a franchise steeped in history. For those who haven't had a chance to play through the older games, they mostly followed the story of two protagonists; Ezio Auditore and Desmond Miles. Desmond lives in modern times and experiences his ancestor Ezio's memories through a machine known as the Animus which allows him to experience these 'genetic memories'. The main portion of the last few Assassins Creed games has taken place in Italy and had you meet and fight alongside such historical figures as Leonardo da Vinci, Niccolo Machiavelli, Rodrigo Borgia (Pope Alexander VI) and many more.
With Assassins Creed III, it has long been known that Ubisoft would be bidding farewell to Ezio Auditore in favor of a new protagonist. As has long been rumored, it looks like the game's cover art confirms that we'll be heading to another era ripe with history; The American Revolutionary War. The Revolutionary War is the conflict that was fought to gain America her independance and the opportunities for historical characters are endless.
We're definitely looking forward to Assassins Creed III, which is due to ship on October 30th and doubtless there will be plenty more information released between now and then. Check out http://assassinscreed.ubi.com/ for more information on the series!
